At Bright Young Smiles, we are proud to offer CEREC, the latest in single visit dental technology. CEREC is a breakthrough computerized 3D system that allows us to create custom dental crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays, and bridges right in our Lighthouse Point, FL office. By using this advanced technology, we can give you custom, perfectly matched and fitted crowns, veneers, and porcelain fillings all during the same dental visit!
How CEREC Same-Day Restoration Works
Using 3D scanning technology, we take a digital impression of your teeth instead of using gooey, uncomfortable impressions. Once we scan your tooth, our team will begin to design a custom crown or restoration to precisely fit your tooth and blend seamlessly with the rest of your mouth.
During this time, you can relax, watch TV, or even run a quick errand if you wish. Your crown is designed by our skilled team of doctors and technicians using the advanced CEREC software to process and transmit it to our milling chamber where your restoration will be created from a single piece of ceramic or porcelain.
After milling, like a small work of art, we hand glaze and color the restoration to match your natural teeth. The result is an aesthetically pleasing replacement tooth that is strong and long-lasting.
Once the crown or restoration is complete, it will be cemented to your tooth. The average treatment time lasts about two hours, and you will walk out the door with your long-lasting dental crown all in one visit. Single-Visit Porcelain Inlays
Inlays are a strong and long-term alternative to a traditional tooth-colored filling. They are used to replace small areas of tooth structure affected by tooth decay. Inlays can be made of a tooth-colored material such as ceramic, porcelain, or special dental composite and are made in our office using the cutting-edge CEREC CAD/CAM technology that creates a customized porcelain restoration in a single visit.
Defective or misshapen “fillings” can be replaced by porcelain inlays and attached to the tooth. This bonding process can actually strengthen the tooth and is a conservative long-term solution to dental cavities because the porcelain material is much more resistant to tooth decay than composite tooth-colored fillings.
Single-Visit Porcelain Onlays
Onlays also fit inside the tooth but extend onto the chewing surface of a back tooth to replace one or more cusps. In the past, onlays were made only of gold, but like inlays, more patients wanted a tooth-colored onlay. Onlays are completed in a single visit and are customized for your tooth using our CEREC CAD/CAM technology and in-office dental laboratory. Making the onlay out of ceramic or porcelain allows the restoration to be bonded to the tooth.
This bonding process may actually strengthen the tooth and help seal the onlay to it. In most cases, onlays serve as a more conservative option to a full-coverage dental crown. Whenever possible, our Bright Young Smiles team will present the least invasive treatment available and advise if a dental onlay is right for you.
