There are few things that can make a person feel as confident as having a beautiful, straight smile. While traditional metal braces are certainly effective for straightening a crooked smile, many people prefer a less visible and more convenient option. For these patients, Invisalign aligners can be a fantastic solution. At Bright Young Smiles in Lighthouse Point, FL, board-certified specialist Dr. Jared Young helps patients achieve their dream smiles easier than ever with Invisalign clear aligners. Keep reading to learn more about the exciting benefits of Invisalign aligners, and find out why this popular treatment may be the right choice for you, too.

Invisalign aligners vs. braces

For many people, Invisalign treatment provides the attractive opportunity to straighten their smiles without all of the “downsides” of traditional metal braces. Some of the most compelling benefits that lead people to choose Invisalign aligners over braces include:

  • Less noticeable
  • More comfortable
  • More convenient
  • Trays can be taken out to eat, brush teeth, have photographs taken, and play an instrument
  • No restrictions on foods/beverages
  • Less impact on appearance and speech

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Following a consultation and thorough examination, imaging will be performed to create a mold of the patient’s mouth. Using this mold, a series of Invisalign clear aligner trays are created in a lab. Over the course of treatment, which is often about a year, patients will wear each set of aligner trays for two weeks at a time before moving to the next set in the series. When patients adhere to their treatment instructions, this process will gradually straighten the teeth and result in a stunningly straight smile.

How often do you have to wear Invisalign trays?

To achieve the optimal outcome, patients must wear their Invisalign trays for at least 22 hours per day, including while sleeping. Invisalign trays can be removed to eat, brush, or play an instrument but should be put back in as soon as possible to avoid delaying progress or compromising the final results. For younger patients, a visible compliance indicator helps parents and providers to know if the aligners are being worn for the appropriate amount of time.

Do I qualify for Invisalign treatment?

Most people can be effectively treated with Invisalign aligners, though there are a few exceptions. While Invisalign trays can correct many of the same issues that are addressed with traditional metal braces, patients with severe misalignment, certain bite problems, and other more complex issues may not be eligible for Invisalign treatment right away. However, many of these patients may go on to use Invisalign aligners at a later stage in their treatment plan.

How long does Invisalign treatment last?

Like traditional orthodontia, Invisalign treatment requires patients to wear a retainer following treatment to keep their results over time. By caring for your teeth and wearing your retainer as directed, you can expect to enjoy your beautiful new smile for decades to come.
